LASER GIGABIT NETWORK UPGRADE
CLIENT
Mollart is a precision mechanical engineering firm, specialising in the design, development and build of deep hole drilling machine tools.
Established in 1929, Mollart has 85 years experience providing precision tools and consultancy services to business across the UK and beyond.
Mollart Resolven, based in Neath Vale, specialises in subcontract machining for high volume parts for the automotive industry.
CHALLENGE
The Neath Valley offices of Mollart were being expanded in line with the continued growth of the company. As part of this new development it became clear that the business would benefit from improving the communications infrastructure.
As well as needing a high-speed data network to support increasing demands on computer resources, the network needed to have maximum available bandwidth to carry the company’s VoIP telephone traffic too.
This was to be joined by a new HD video conferencing solution that would allow for better communications between branch offices across the UK and the rest of the world.
Finally, several problems had been identified with existing network cabling that was causing systems to under-perform. It became clear that the faulty installation needed to be repaired or replaced for the network to function at optimal speed.
SOLUTION
To provide some future-proofing for the new network infrastructure, Definitive specified and installed new CAT6 cable throughout the site. This newly upgraded cabling delivers 10 times the bandwidth of the CAT5 cable it replaced, ready to support increased voice and data demands. Shielded CAT6 cable was installed to support factory machinery and to deliver gigabit network speeds at every end-point. To help extend the network between the various buildings on site, several high-speed gigabit laser links were installed, negating the need for external cabling.
A new 14-camera CCTV system was installed to protect the site, backed by a separate CAT6 network was installed to carry video signals back to the central server. The newly installed system added night vision support and mobile device access to boost site security.
Finally 2 conference rooms were fitted with 55” HDTVs and comprehensive HD videoconferencing solutions to help improve communication between the global Mollart sites. It is also hoped that the new conferencing systems will assist with international sales and support efforts.
